An example of metaphoric gesture would be if you said something like, "I can't decide where to eat tonight.  I'm still weighing my options."  As these words are spoken you put both hands out in front of you and pretend like you have two objects in your hands that you're weighing.  Obviously your two options do not have actual weights, but we think of "weight" and "value" together, and so we "weigh our options".  This connection between weight and value is a conceptual metaphor that is used unconsciously both in language and gesture.  The categories to the left, contain more metaphoric gestures and offer some brief explanations as to why they exist.

This is a work in progress and I expect the lists will grow and the categories will change as I continue to collect more gestures.
